Never Miss Another Epic Moment in Sports, Plus You Spoke and We Listened

The grill is gassed up, the beer is chilled and everyone’s wearing their team gear.  The fall air is crisp, and wisps of smoke carry the smell of burgers and dogs throughout the back porch. Trash talk is in full effect, early games are starting and the mood is great.

But what happens when your team’s game ends, or better yet its only halftime and they already have the game in the bag?  You start channel flipping, taking in game-by-game, and trying to quench your thirst for excitement.

Remember Tebowmania sweeping the NFL last year? Tim Tebow’s 4th quarter comebacks became the stuff of legend. He was must-see TV even if most of the comebacks were due to the defense and the kicker… Still, many fans missed Tebow Time because they were watching other games, clueless to the mania.

Today, we’ve teamed up with our good friend Mark Phillip’s company, Are You Watching This?! (RUWT), to guarantee you will never miss another live epic sports moment.

Mark has programmed a sophisticated robot – called RUWTbot – to watch every play of every game, on every channel, and alert you when games are becoming epic. And RUWTbot is smart. It understands no-hitters through 8 innings, major upsets, and games going into triple overtime.

The slick RUWT integration with SportStream automatically alerts users in the app when games elevate to Hot or Epic, with the game “heating up” on the game selection grid and automatically appearing in your game picker.

Also, we’re listening and have heard many of you clamoring for Twitter sign-in. We are happy to say it’s here, plus more! With advanced Twitter integration you can now:

Watching Over the Flock- Oregon launches the “Quack Cave”

The University of Oregon has long claimed that their “tradition is innovation.” It goes back to the early days of Nike, where legendary track coach Bill Bowerman perfected lightweight running shoes with a waffle iron, some ingenuity and an iconic athlete in Steve Prefontiane. This traditionhttp://assets.tumblr.com/javascript/tiny_mce_3_4_7/themes/advanced/img/trans.gif was born from a relentless passion for making “yesterday’s fast, today’s slow.” There’s no mistake about it, the Ducks continually push the envelope when it comes to developing new ways to enhance their athletes’ performance, while marketing their now global brand.

Once seen as an outcast in college football for wearing new and different uniform combinations, today those innovations have become the industry standard. Colleges across the country now introduce alternate uniforms with even the old guard Nebraska and Notre Dame joining the act. However, the Ducks have once again surged ahead of the flock by finding a new way to generate conversations about their program. Just last week Oregon became the first team in College Sports to launch a digital media hub called “The Quack Cave.” Buried deep in the bowels of Autzen Stadium, the Quack Cave is lined with flat screen monitors, iPads and wireless keyboards. There, a few Oregon students have been selected to connect with Duck fans on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Google+ and Instagram.

With the seventh largest combined Facebook and Twitter followings in the NCAA , that number figures to grow this fall, as their top-five ranked football team takes the field. “We have an ever-growing, technically savvy fanbase that’s deeply passionate about the Ducks, and the Quack Cave will allow us to connect and respond to them in a personal and unique way,” Andy McNamara, Assistant Director of Media Services for the football program, said in a statement. While the social explosion in sports continues to expand, Senior Associate Athletic Director Craig Pinterns thinks the Quack Cave will once again keep the Oregon brand on everyone’s mind, “We want to be able to engage with our fans at an unparalleled level and monitor what is one of the top brands in college athletics.”

Here at SportStream, we could not be happier about the developments at the U of O, and hope that this is yet another trend that spreads throughout college athletics. As ESPN’s Ted Miller said “it’s sure to be mocked and then copied”. We’ve been hard at work dialing in the NCAA football experience in our app, featuring the best the sports world has to offer – from columnists, bloggers, fans and athletes, and are happy to add @Quackcave to our expansive database of Twitter accounts. Check in to a Duck game this fall in the Sportstream app and make sure to invite your friends, because what good is a big game with out your buddies? So keep Tweeting, Instagraming and loving your Ducks on Facebook Duck fans, you never know who’s watching, and your chances of connecting to the program have never been better!
