We love sports. We all love sports, and part of what makes them great is the shared, collective experience. In stadiums, arenas, sports bars and living rooms, we gather to celebrate our favorite teams together, to experience the highs and lows of each TD, home run, sack, goal, 3-pointer and fumble. And talk some serious trash.
Today we are launching SportStream to help fans connect around all the best moments in sports. Focusing on the inherent social nature of sports we make it easier than ever to join the growing conversation around every game.
SportStream allows you to check in to any MLB or NBA game – and we’ll add NFL, NCAA Football, NHL and NCAA Basketball as those seasons begin – and immediately engage in the game conversation as the live game action unfolds. You can see your friends and other fans in each game, join chat rooms with them or post to Facebook and Twitter and let your voice be heard. SportStream filters all the best tweets from fans, foes, pros and pundits, in real-time, during every game to bring you the very best commentary as the action happens. Numbers? We got numbers for you, all the stats, scores and play-by-play info you’ve come to expect from sports apps – but we’ve given it our unique twist. You can take any play, home runs, 3 pointers, monster dunks, and tweet and Facebook your reaction to it.
Sports are more important to our culture and collective experience than ever before. You find the evidence in record crowds, contracts, TV deals – but sports are also driving massive activity through Twitter and Facebook. This year Super Bowl XLVI triggered over 12,000 tweets per second. And we’re sure you see your Facebook news feed filling up during big games. But it’s getting noisy – so we’ve developed SportStream to help you better connect to the conversation, your friends and other fans while you enjoy the action.
Along with today’s launch, we are also announcing our new company of the same name based in San Francisco. Paul Allen, Seattle Seahawks and Portland Trail Blazers owner, has invested $3.5 million through Vulcan Capital. Paul and the team at Vulcan share our vision that the convergence of mobile devices, social platforms and sports presents a tremendous opportunity for emerging media companies like SportStream. And, most importantly, it provides fans with exciting new ways to connect around favorite teams and experience games.
We look forward to seeing you in the games. But bring your A game!
